Playful Promises are one of those fabulous brands that help us girls feel sexy. To celebrate the launch of a new boutique in the heart of London’s Soho, they hosted an exclusive soiree at The Box. A sort of speak-easy, with a vintage vibe that exudes coolness. Waiting outside, I could have sworn we were at the wrong place. A dingy walkway in the heart of Soho’s sex shops but the big oak doors did not disappoint. Once a delicately dressed woman in her lingerie took our cardies, while another was right there to offer us a Blackcurrant Vodka Martini – absolutely delicious.
After we all took our seats in the grand room with leather booths our attention turned to the velvet-curtained stage as a sexy circus styled matron introduced the collection. The Spring/Summer 2012 collection itself is filled with uber glam silk and corseted waist numbers. Style collections such as Kitty, which describes delicate stiched detailing and tulle edge trim, completing a white bra and knickers set with suspenders. Heart Noir, a more cutesy look, with ebony white with black heart shape cut outs that make for a very playful look. My favourite was Gilda which features delicate black lace overlaid on nude and black satin panelling to create a very curvaceous figure. The Gilda collection offers push-up bra, long-line bra, high-waist brief, G-string and long-line suspender belt.
After the fashion show and the continuous poring of champagne and martinis, came the entertainment. Playful Promises had arranged for three very different, but very flirtatious burlesque performances. Miss Polly Ray was a curvacious cabaret styled singer, who walked through the audience demanding attention, which was granted. Roxy Velvet and Mamzelle Maze were more strip tease and one lighted up the stage – literally, with fire!
