POMPOUS Beauty

Tuesday, August 14, 2012

Our POMPOUS project is coming along quite nicely. We are coming to the final stages of production, just in time for our little break to Brazil. Thanks FARFETCH.COM. I would love to post the entire thing on here, but that would give it all away, but what I can share with you is the beauty.

We carried out three shoots, one guy’s editorial, and two girls. Although you probably can’t wait to see what make up we put on the male model, you’ll just have to wait and see I’m afraid.

I was inspired by the beauty looks on Anna Sui and Mary Katrantzou’s autumn/winter 2012 catwalk,  (slyly hinting that the magazine features these two cities,) but also muses such as Edie Sedgewick and Japanese geishas.

We used a lot of differernt brands and products to create these looks including Mac Lipstick in Film Noir and Pink Noveau; Bumble and Bumble Shine On (and on) Spray, Surf Spray and Thickening Serum; La La Lashes Blue Velvet; Stila All Over Shimmer; bareMinerals Mineral Veil and Flawless Definition Mascara and, what we used most of, Rimmel Exaggerate Liquid Eyeliner.

I love that E.A. Burns Neon Breastplate Necklace!

Daniel Jackson for Dazed & Confused

Wednesday, August 1, 2012

I love when editorials are taken to a new level, and Daniel Jackson’s latest effort for Dazed & Confused does just that.

Inspired by the fashion illustrator Rene Gruau, this editorial was style by Karen Langley. Magical.

Found this video of one of the latest Dossier Journal shoots.

Looks like fun right? Here is one of the final images…

Azealia Banks for Dossier Magazine

Friday, June 1, 2012

Dossier has quickly become one of my favourite magazines. I love its juxtaposition of fashion, literature and art. One feature in the latest issue was shot by Michael Flores and styled by Moses Moreno and shows Azealia Banks in a different light than her usual Harlem get-up, only furthering my obsession.

Are you a fan?

Curious Portraits

Monday, May 28, 2012

I have been a little slow on the posts over the past weeks. Blame New York, Jet lag and the start of semester three of my MA. I have also just started a new job today so things are a little busy to say the least. But you can expect the first style blog posts on Notes On Allure this week and many more of my usual ramblings.

To break the fast here are some curious portraits on polaroid of Aria Darcella photographed by Pino Leone for Bambi Magazine.

Stunning!

When I Wake Up In My Make Up…

Monday, May 14, 2012

I recently came across I Love Fake Magazine and fell in love. It’s a bi-monthly title that features the usual things such as fashion, design and culture, but what I like about it is its grunge aesthetic and emotive editorials. This is definitely a favourite. Model Svala Lind is photographed by Saga Sig and styling is by Anna Soffia.

A Different Black Swan

Wednesday, April 11, 2012

Today I came across the Norwegian art and culture magazine SMUG. After a frivolous search online I found a fashion editorial that I loved straight away.

Ballerinas used to be perceived as delicate, pretty creatures, but since Black Swan I haven’t been able to look at them in the same way. Turning something so pretty, and finding the rough edges is what I love to do with fashion, and this editorial does just that. It depicts the ballerina in a raw way, that leaves you with a clear understanding of their talent, and of course style. The fact that the style portrayed in this shoot is of the boho variety, only got me more excited.

Photographer: Joachim Johnson
Model: Ballerina-turned-model Amanda Norgaard

I also came across a film to compliment the editorial…
